Tele-monitoring as a medical application of Ubiquitous Computing

چکیده
In this paper we present why tele-monitoring is a promising application domain for Ubiquitous Computing. We discuss how the characteristics of ubiquitous information systems can be applied in the design of tele-monitoring applications and what special conditions and problems have to be regarded. Finally, we present the results of the implementation of such an application realized in a joint research project.

BACKGROUND Affective computing (AC) is concerned with emotional interactions performed with and through computers. It is defined as "computing that relates to, arises from, or deliberately influences emotions". AC enables investigation and understanding of the relation between human emotions and health as well as application of assistive and useful technologies in the medical domain. OBJECTIV...
متن کاملUbiquitous Tele-monitoring Kit (UTK): Measuring Physiological Signals Anywhere at Anytime
The Ubiquitous Tele-monitoring Kit (UTK) is aimed at helping the clinician in acquiring, managing and normalizing information coming from the patients at home and storing the data in a distributed system. This approach aims to reduce costs in the healthcare system and alleviate the inherent problems to chronic patients who usually may visit the doctors. The proposed system closes the tele-monit...
متن کاملA cloud computing based 12-lead ECG telemedicine service
BACKGROUND Due to the great variability of 12-lead ECG instruments and medical specialists' interpretation skills, it remains a challenge to deliver rapid and accurate 12-lead ECG reports with senior cardiologists' decision making support in emergency telecardiology. METHODS We create a new cloud and pervasive computing based 12-lead Electrocardiography (ECG) service to realize ubiquitous 12-...

Many studies have indicated that computing technology can enable off-site cardiologists to read patients' electrocardiograph (ECG), echocardiography (ECHO), and relevant images via smart phones during pre-hospital, in-hospital, and post-hospital teleconsultation, which not only identifies emergency cases in need of immediate treatment, but also prevents the unnecessary re-hospitalizations. Mean...
متن کاملUbiquitous Mobile Health Monitoring System for Elderly (UMHMSE)
Recent research in ubiquitous computing uses technologies of Body Area Networks (BANs) to monitor the person's kinematics and physiological parameters. In this paper we propose a real time mobile health system for monitoring elderly patients from indoor or outdoor environments. The system uses a biosignal sensor worn by the patient and a Smartphone as a central node. The sensor data is collecte...
